It's crazy to me to think we are in the home stretch to turning 2 in April. April snuck up on us last year and I have a feeling it will be doing it again. It's scary and exciting all at the same time.

Luke rarely wants to sit still for pictures let alone look at the camera so I consider myself lucky that I managed to catch this look:

Chris saved a shoebox full of old Matchbox cars, trucks, and planes from when he was little. We found them right before we got married and Chris wanted to throw them out. But I kept them hoping that someday we would have a little boy of our own and he could play with "daddy's toys."

Well that someday is now. Luke LOVES dad's trucks. Well all trucks. But especially the box full of banged up, metal cars, trucks, and planes. (Which I'm sure are full of lead paint but Chris is still alive so I guess it's ok.)

Luke let me take his picture as long as he was playing with his "tow tucks." All trucks are "tow tucks" or "gas tucks."

Here he is taking off his shoes like a big boy. The first thing he does when someone comes in our house is tell them, "Off." As in take your shoes off. I don't know if it's so much out of cleanliness or the fact that if you take your shoes off then Luke knows you aren't leaving anytime soon. He's too cute.

To My Sweet Luke,

As the days pass and you get bigger and bigger, I can't help but try and savor all the little things that you do that make you "you."

Yesterday you and I were snuggling on the couch, winding down before naptime watching Little Einsteins. You had your "dinks" (binks) and your blanket and lovey. I finally noticed the reason you need two binks to sleep. You put one in your mouth and you rub the other one back and forth between your fingers. It's ridiculously cute.

The next thing I knew, you had nodded off in my lap. Something that hasn't happened since you've been one, I'm sure. It made mommy's day. Part of me wanted to let you stay there forever but I know you needed a good nap and mommy needed to get stuff done!

You are talking SO much lately. Your language has exploded this past month! Really hard words too! "Ladder" "Wagon" "Garage" "Glasses" "Vacuum" are all now in your daily vocabulary. I still haven't heard "mom" lately but Grandma swears you say it when I'm not around. (I don't know if she's telling the truth or just trying to make me feel better.) You also say your friend's names now. "Han" "Cole" and "Baby" (which is Declan). You point to yourself in pictures and exclaim "Eee" (Me).

You are definitely asserting your independence lately and have become VERY picky when it comes to eating. I'm not too concerned because when you do eat it is ALOT. You love "sacks" (snacks) and "treats."

Mommy is hoping to start potty training next month. The verdict is still out if you are 100% ready but I guess we won't know unless we try.

The nursery at church has started asking me when you turn 2. Apparently you are too smart and have figured out how to open the door and escape. Mommy isn't ready for you to go to the 2s and 3s class but I know when April comes you definitely will be!

Each day you learn new things and surprise daddy and I with how smart you are. You are the happiest little boy I think I've ever met. You smile and wave at everyone around you. I'm convinced you think everyone is here just for you - it's Luke's world and we are just living in it!

We can't wait to see what this next year brings. Mommy is looking forward to hearing more and more words (maybe even sentences) and watching your personality grow. Daddy and I love you SO much!

Love,
Mommy

Writing a letter to your son, what a beautiful idea! And I love that he's playing with your husband's old toys.
